Napra Review

Throw in Woody Guthrie's knapsack and guitar, Willie Nelson's way around writing a ballad, Lou Reed's dynamic range and sense of how to bend a blue note, and what have you got? A fifteen-year old modern folk artist, singer/songwriter Kieran McGee. This ain't retro; the kid's an original. While thinking "No, can't be true," I kept asking myself, "Is his guitar out of tune or are the strings just dead?"

But I truly loved the album; he sings the American spirit the way I want to hear it, from the 50's right up until now, the whole shebang flowing from one droll old soul, perhaps Dylan reborn before he died. "Going down to the Lombard Plaza, it's two blocks away from a donut shop, it's two blocks away from a good meal, it's two blocks away from downtown, but that ain't the worst part, that's the best." If you want to renew your faith in the continuance of the American beat/folk heritage, spend an hour with McGee.
